Privacy & HIPAA
Many teams ask how HIPAA applies to Audiobiography, and we’re glad they do. Here is a clear answer for hospices and assisted living communities alike.
A life-story program, not medical care
Audiobiography is a life-story and memory-keeping program. We help people record the stories, memories, and wisdom they want to pass on, in their own voice. We don’t provide medical care, and we don’t collect diagnoses, treatment details, or medical records, so Audiobiography sits outside the scope of HIPAA.
What we keep
The life stories each person chooses to share, plus the simple details a volunteer needs to plan a visit, such as a first name and the best days to stop by.
What we don’t collect
Diagnoses, treatment information, medications, medical records, or chart numbers. Those stay with your care team, where they belong.
Families decide who listens
Families choose who can hear the finished recordings. They can keep a story private and welcome only the listeners they approve.
Volunteers learn privacy basics first
Every volunteer completes privacy training in Audiobiography Studio, including HIPAA basics, before they are assigned to visit anyone.
Your organization stays in control
Your team decides who is enrolled, which volunteers are assigned to each person, and which staff members have access in Studio.
Questions from your director, privacy officer, or corporate team? We’d be glad to walk through any of this with you.
